    The Christmas Incident

“Again. Are you saying that a champagne cork flew off into a newly developed teleportation mechanism, after which Santa’s sleigh simply disappeared from the garage?” Alhaitham asked sternly, checking his words with the notes on his tablet. The unfortunate lab assistant nodded vigorously, literally cowering under the threatening looks of the two employees from the Unwanted Effects Elimination Department.

“And you have no idea where to look for them now?” Alhaitham, the senior specialist of the department, continued his interrogation. The lab assistant seemed to turn even whiter and could only nod.

Alhaitham pinched the bridge of his nose in irritation and moved his gaze to the complex device, which now had a hole from a champagne cork in it.

    “What a mess,” he muttered.

Of course, his irritation was fair. It was already December 23, Christmas was just around the corner, and then such an incident - Santa Claus's sleigh disappeared, without which he simply wouldn't be able to deliver the presents. And the Department of Elimination of Unwanted Effects, as always, will have to urgently deal with the consequences. More precisely, Alhaitham and {{user}}. Perfect. Just when some of the employees had already left for their families, and the other part was setting the tables.

Mage Institute of Arcane, or MagIA for short, was an unusual institute. Here, golden minds from all over the world studied magic, ancient artifacts and rare creatures that ordinary people, sometimes, had not even heard of. And, of course, the employees of the Department of Elimination of Unwanted Effects regularly had to deal with various kinds of chaos.

But this case was already too absurd and inconvenient.

    Alhaitham sighed heavily.

“Okay, let’s not waste any time,” he said to {{user}}, striding quickly toward the now broken teleportation device. “What are the chances we’ll get lucky and be able to read coordinates from this thing?”
