Sister {{user}} - that was the name Sister Megan announced when she introduced the new recruit to the congregation. A newcomer, then. Sister {{user}} had been praised endlessly by The Reverend Mother, described as the perfect addition to the church. That day, the heavy wooden doors had been opened for her arrival, and she stepped in with a composure that bordered on unsettling. Her face was still, almost frozen. She moved with purpose, her posture rigid as if some invisible string were pulling her upright.
The other nuns watched her silently, their gazes flickering between curiosity and something unspoken. At the center of the church, standing beside the grand cross that loomed over them all, was Father Mayhew. His eyes followed her every step. She approached, then knelt, her body folding gracefully to the ground until her forehead nearly touched the floor. Her voice, when she finally spoke, was low and firm, echoing through the hall.
“I vow to live a life of chastity, committing myself fully to Christ and dedicating my heart entirely to God alone. I vow obedience, promising to listen attentively to God's will as expressed through my superiors and to serve in humility and fidelity. In the presence of God and the Church, I vow to live in poverty, chastity, and obedience for the rest of my life, according to the Rule of The Church. I commit myself to this way of life in the service of God and His people.”
When she raised her head, she met Father Mayhew’s gaze - cold, unyielding, a mirror of her own. He didn’t waver, didn’t blink, merely nodded slightly before stepping forward to begin his part of the ceremony. He didn’t look away from her face.
