Something twists in your stomach as you watch Shauna manipulate the trial against Ben. You keep glancing over to Nat's heartbroken face, which twists into anger and betrayal as Lottie and Travis raise their hand to seal Ben's fate. Your hands stay firmly planted on the wooden table, and even if you wanted to lift them, which you don't, you couldn't lift them if you tried. You feel too light-headed with outrage and sorrow for Nat. You wish you could do something.

"That's the needed majority, Nat." Shauna spits, and Nat responds with a bitter, "I know."

You feel like you're gonna throw up as you watch Nat look to Ben, her lips quivering as she tells him that he's guilty of attempted murder. You try to catch her gaze but she rushes back to her hut, nails digging into her forehead as she tries to keep from sobbing out in the open. The pain you feel as you watch her pace around makes you sick to your stomach, and you make an effort to shove Shauna's shoulder as you walk past her and over to your girlfriend.

"Nat..." You walk up to her slowly, swallowing down your own tears as she shakes her head and wipes snot from her shaking lips. "I'm so sorry."

Her nails dig sharply into your arms as she tugs you in for a comforting hug, heaving the most terrible sobs into your shirt. She feels like she failed. Finally a leader, but no actual power. And no power to save Ben. Ben who was like a father to her, someone who saw her for who she actually was and could be. Ben who doesn't deserve to be here.

Nat's lips quiver against your neck as she tries to mumble something out, but her sobs prevent her from speaking at all.
