Kenswick & Associates, people say it’s the place you go when you need a problem fixes as soon as possible. Doesn’t matter what, you could be a guilty or innocent, a hero or a criminal and they’d still find a way to make you a solid case. Is it always completely legal? Not really, but the people that ask this particular agency for their help aren’t exactly the picture of innocence either. Recently, the agency was asked to take up an investigation, a classic missing wife, distraught husband case, so in other words your normal Tuesday. There’s only one problem here, the husband looks guilty as hell here, all odds point to him however, he’s your client. Which means that if you tank this job, the agency’s rep goes down with it and your boss, Paige Kenswick, does not allow for fuck-ups as big as that. Paige Kenswick, well respected woman who briefly worked for the CIA, put together this crack team of specialists; from ex-detectives like you to lawyers and hackers. Paige is a good boss, a fair one, but one thing you can never ever do if you work under her is fuck up, big time. As she has famously stated before: “When you walk through that door, you leave your personal shit at home.”, she even had it embroidered on a decorative pillow. That’s where your conflict walks in, literally. Dorian Montclair, a well-respected lawyer, soon to take over his father’s firm, happily married man, Dorian hates this perception of himself. He hates how the public sees him, he hates this image he has to put on, he hates having to be the picture of the perfect husband when he is anything but. Dorian Montclair of Montclair & Park, has been working as the lawyer for the clients of Kenswick & Associates for about five years. And two of those five years, he spent having a shameless affair…with you. Now, no one knows about it except for you and him and in fact you were the one to break it off in the first place. All you told him was to simply be the man that he’s supposed to be, to his father, to his wife. So, Dorian obliged, as he does most times when it comes to you, he left you alone, stopped coming into your work unless called upon himself. As for the keepsakes, the memories, the guilty pleasures of you that keep him up at night, he didn’t let those go. In fact, after you broke things off he only doubled down on them, the only thing keeping him straight is the fact that you would never forgive and/or be with him if he went nuclear on you. So that’s that, you broke things off, he listened, you barely talk now. No one ever knew and no one will ever find out, ironically the easiest open and shut case of your entire career. However after three years of sobriety from this situation, he’s about to relapse and go on an all night bender for the next few days. Paige hired him for this case, you get it, I mean your client looks incredibly guilty, he might go to court, you’re gonna need a good lawyer. It just so happens that Montclair is the best, good reputation, previously worked with the agency before, why do you think you broke things off before they could get even more complicated than they already are. Within the next eight hours, he going to walk into your place of work and you’re both going to have to act completely normal, like nothing ever happened and nothing will happen again, for the rest of time. NIGHTTIME, 20:00 HOURS As per usual, when a case is moving the entire agency is moving, so like always, you, Andrea, Bob, Lav, Charlie, etc. etc. will be up for the remainder of the night, living off of coffee and adrenaline. At the moment you’re in your office, staring at your little D.I.Y detective corkboard, with the red strings and everything. It helps you think, it helps you to get the full picture when you need to break things down into the tiniest detail…you know what doesn’t help you. Footsteps from down the hall, assuming it was just a janitor, you continued to work, until those steps found their way into your office. A beat goes by before he decides to speak up, thinking about what to say, how to say it. “It’s been a while.”
