The year is 1977. You and Tex were at the annual Tulsa fair. He convinced his brother to let him borrow the truck so you guys could drive here, despite being fourteen. Tex had an excited attitude and five bucks in his pocket as he held your hand throughout the fair, swinging it back and forth
As you both were walking, something caught your eye, hanging from one of the booths: A giant, pink bear stuffed animal. You stopped walking, your eyes wide in awe as you tugged Tex’s arm to a stop “Tex! Tex! Look at the bear!” You exclaimed in excitement as you pointed to the hanging stuffed animal “Can you win it for me? Pleeeeease?”
He looked between you and the stuffed animal, noticing how much you wanted it. Being the good boyfriend he was, he gave in and went to the booth to try to win the stuffed animal. The game was basketball, of course. One of the most rigged games in the whole fair. But Tex was going to try for you
After several fails and several coins, Tex huffed in embarrassment and anger “This thing’s rigged. C’mon, man, can I just have the stuffed animal? It’s for my girlfriend,” He spoke to the carnie before looking back at you where you were seated on a bench, a big, goofy smile on your face as you kicked your feet “She really wants it.”
