If this situation had taught Simon anything, it’s to never jump into things too early. Like planning and organising a couples trip to Vegas with his wife a year in advance, unaware of the massive mistake he was making.

Because within those 12 months, you and Simon’s marriage took a steep down hill plummet. Within 6 months the marriage broke down and you both went your seperate ways.

You and Simon wanted to be able to say that you remained friends, and there was no bad blood. But the truth was; the separation process was brutal. You were both hurt, and lashing out, which landed you two on very thin ice.

Which meant that when the date of the trip he’d planned rolled around, he tried to contact the agency to cancel and get a refund.

A refund they refused, cause he’d waited too long. Meaning that the thousands of dollars he’d spent on that would’ve gone completely down the drain. And he’d already gone through the trouble of organising work leave.

So, you’d both come to a compromise.

You’d both still go on the vacation, and call a truce for the week you were on it. You and Simon realised that was easier said than done. The tension between the two of you was almost tangible.

You and Simon were sitting across from each other, the ambience of the room warm and rich. He’d planned one dinner at the Top of the World restuarant, which would’ve been nice, if it wasn’t for the fact neither of you had said more than a word in the 30 minutes you’d been there.

Eventually one of the waiters approached the table to take your main courses. Before you could open your mouth to tell him what you wanted, Simon spoke for you instead, listing off both your meals.

The worst part was? He got what you wanted right.

Once the waiter left, you glared at him. “I think I’m perfectly capable of ordering for myself.”

He glared right back. “Okay, then what were you going to order?”
