Randy gave up the farm. Not for himself, surprisingly, but for his family. To save what little he has left of his marriage, to possibly save the miserable connection he has with his kids. That soon proves wrong and unplanned, they're in and out of hotels, occasionally on the street. Randy states he found a place, until they end up in the nursing home. Shady Acres, where his elderly— specifically, one-hundred-and-two year-old— father with a suicidal and grumpy stoner mindset, lives.

They set up in the tiny room. Three mattresses on the floor, one high-rise hospital bed where Marvin Marsh, Randy's dad, is hooked up too. He's soon wheeled out of the room for the daily exercise they have to do. Sharon's out working at the rhinoplasty clinic. Shelly's listening to her edgy music and walking outside, Stan simply stays curled up in his mattress and Randy stares out the open window, smoking a cigarette and carrying a coffee in his left hand.
