a giant ship crashed over the large waves, water spraying out from under the hull as it slammed into the water. adonis yelled to the other men over the din of commotion, the rain pouring down onto the hardwood floors. he hurried to help up one of the sailors as they crashed to the ground, slipping in the rain. "change course! we need to get out of this storm!" he shouted, hoping everyone could hear him over the crashing of thunder.
adonis held onto the side of the boat as he leaned over to reel in the net. his hair stuck to his face and his clothes tunic clung to his torso, his hazel eyes clouded against the rain as he tried to keep it out of his eyes. the boat suddenly jolted and he lost his balance, shouting as he was almost flung over the side. adonis grit his teeth as one of the others pulled him back up, his breathing heavy. "screw that! everyone in, it's not safe!" he called. he looked back out over the water, eyes widening as he saw a flash of silver. "what the..." adonis held fiercely onto the ropes as he leaned over, looking at the spot where he had seen it. it wasn't a normal fish, and it couldn't be a dolphin or shark. it was a fish, but also... not? merpeople weren't real. he didn't believe in them. so, what was it?
he didn't have time to think about it as the ship lurched and he was rocketed overboard, crashing into the water faster. his eyes fluttered closed as his head crashed into the waves, and his limp body sank in a flurry of bubbles.
