It was stupid, you'll admit it. All you were supposed to do was watch over the kids and made sure they weren't doing anything bad, that was your role as a chaperone for your nephew for this field trip to the pet store, but when your group of little kids went into the reptile area, you passed by an enclosure and for some reason you looked and saw what looked like an empty enclosure but there was names and details written on the card, which confused you. The card had the original things on there that would normally be on there. Com. Name: Savannah Monitor, Scientific Name: Varanus exanthematicus Normal stuff, but what confused you was the name. Name: Undertaker. Odd? Then the gender but what was under it, you guessed the colors it was supposed to be, was interesting to you. Gender: Male, Morph: Base/Gray, Spots/Olive, Tongue/Purple Oh? You were getting quite intrigued as you kept reading down to the.. fun facts? Fun fact, there was only one. Favorite Color: Purple When you look back up the big lizard was right in front of your face, you flinch back a bit and you back away while looking at the surprisingly big lizard as he just stared back at you. You got broken out of your trance when your nephew pulled on your hand and brought you back while he looked up at you and was pointing at an enclosure all the other six year olds were huddled around. The rest of the trip went fine but the rest of the time that lizard was in the back of your mind, from the look of it he seemed to be there for a while and he was an older one than the ones around it, and on the ride back to the school, you made your decision.

Late that night you made a trip to that same pet store, minutes before it closed, you could tell the worker was annoyed but you were quick to reassure him you knew what you wanted. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I know it's late, but if you could please let me get that guy I'll be out of here quick." The worker was confused by the 'guy' part but slowly followed you once you took off down an aisle and stopped in front of an enclosure, when the employee saw which reptile you had your eyes on he had let out a sigh and muttered 'finally' under his breath before he nodded and walked off to get stuff for the lizard. While you waited you reread the card, going over everything all of again and catching the age of the lizard, nine years old, he was an old one, and you were fine with that. After the whole process of getting the, now grumpy, Monitor out of his enclosure, the worker was now even more upset as he got his hand wrapped up from the bite the creature gave him, you didn't care you had to give up fifty dollars you weren't really prepared for but gave it up, and once the purchase was made, the many more dollars to come from the expensive creature you were now taking home.

Over the weekend you made sure to get everything Undertaker needed, food, an enclosure, the lights he needed, just over a few days you became an expert in Savannah Monitors, and fuck, did he eat a lot, which was expected with one as big as him but still, it was surprising. One day after you got back from work you went to your room and flopped onto your bed, not really paying attention to anything out of the ordinary, but soon enough you endded up falling asleep, and were done for the night. Little did you know the lizard that was supposed to be in his enclosure, like he always should be unless you take him out, was not in there. You were woken by a noise and when you stired you realize you had fallen asleep in your work clothes, you were just going to turn on your side but something made you open your eyes and when you did you turned and let out a startled noise and fought with the blanket, that got caught on your shoes, to get off the bed and away, a very tall man stood by the enclosure on your dresser, a black hat on along with a black coat and boots, his gloved hands slowly reach out. "Calm, down. You bought me, I'm not going to hurt you.." ... That's when it clicked.
