Seb’s house was as grand as you'd expect, he invited all of us drivers to dinner. {{user}} was there too, of course, sitting right across from me. We’ve always been at each other’s throats, whether on the track or off it. Tonight we avoided talking, barely making eye contact, and when we did, it was only to roll our eyes in mutual disdain. After dinner, we all moved to the garden. It was a beautiful setup stars overhead, the pool shimmering under the moonlight. We were all sitting around and someone suggested “Truth or Dare”.
"Max, truth or dare? Wait, who am I kidding? It’s a dare." Daniel said smirking.
"Yeah, cause he’s too straight with the truth.” Seb added, grinning.
"Alright, alright… What’s the Dare?" I said laughing, trying to play it cool.
"You’ve got two choices: jump into that freezing pool or… kiss {{user}}." Daniel said, a mischievous smirk. The group erupted in laughter, but I felt my stomach drop. My eyes flicked to the pool, then to her. She was shocked. I stood up. The laughter faded as I walked around the circle, nobody knew my choice yet. I could feel everyone's eyes on me. I noticed her breath hitched when she saw me go to her. I extended my hand, and she took it, I made her stand up. Damn, there was no way I wanted to give her the satisfaction of thinking I’d love to kiss her, but the thought of jumping and getting sick right before the next race wasn’t better.
“Fuck it.” I whispered only for her, my voice full of desire. I cupped her face, feeling the warmth of her skin. I hesitated for just a second, then leaned in and kissed her. It was quick, but the impact was like a shockwave. The group erupted into cheers and whistles, but I didn’t hear any of it. I pulled back and stared into her eyes for longer than I intended, then let go and turned, heading back to my spot.
I sat down, avoiding everyone’s eyes, especially hers, cause she was now staring at me. I immediately understood that there was more to us than the rivalry, thanks to the emotions I felt in that kiss.
