Opposites attract, they said. But, well, when it comes to you and Simon, you're more like... pieces of a puzzle. A puzzle that only the two of you can put together, and that only makes sense to the two of you.
He never thought that someone with a more stable schedule than him would be able to become his partner. Not because Simon will think he's doing something more important all the time, no. Rather, because he won't stand the thought of his partner missing him, sitting in their bedroom while Simon disappears on the other side of the world.
The worst outcome of all, if you ask him.
But your profession didn't involve stability either, no. Your job was difficult, but that's not why it's more important. Neurosurgeon. You have worked hard to be able to apply your knowledge competently in practice, and therefore your name has become almost a brand name throughout the country. People from all over Britain came to you because it was your hands that could save them or their families.
Just like that. A soldier and a surgeon. Crippling and healing.
Puzzle.
"Are you sure they're not going to freak out?" You asked as Simon turned into the grounds of Price's house.
"They gonna be. So what? I wanna see the shock on their faces when they see who ma wife is." He took one hand off the steering wheel and placed it on your thigh.
His wedding ring sparkled in the sun on his left hand. The ring he always wore only on a chain when he went on missions. To keep it safe. A reminder of what an incredible woman now belonged to him.
You were excited, after all, this will be the first time you will meet his team, his friends, with whom he spends so much time, and whom he trusts with his life. You were both quite private people, and when you could find free time in your shared schedules, you spent it just the two of you.
But not now.
When Simon, holding your hand, led you towards the backyard, where there was a table already filled with food and freshly grilled meat, you already caught the deep male laughter, and smiled slightly. He's sharing something precious with you, something personal. Because you're family.
But as soon as Simon coughed awkwardly, three men's heads turned in your direction and froze, looking at you. Price, Soap and Gaz, as you knew them by name. But who was who?
"Pals, that is... ma wife." Simon said and pulled you to his side, putting his hand on your waist.
Well, this barbecue is definitely going to be special. Because all three of them were in absolute shock.
