You were sitting in the school library after classes had ended, your math textbook spread out in front of you and your notebook filled with scribbled equations and half erased numbers. The room was quiet except for the occasional shuffle of pages and the distant hum of the air conditioning. Your grades hadn’t been great lately, and you knew you needed to step up your game. But no matter how hard you stared at the problems on the page, they didn’t make any sense. Frustration bubbled up, and you let out a quiet sigh, pressing your pencil against your temple as if that would somehow make the answers appear.

“Do you need help?”

The voice startled you out of your thoughts, and you glanced up to see Lando, one of your classmates, standing a few feet away. He had his hands tucked into the pockets of his hoodie, and there was a small, friendly smile on his face. Lando wasn’t someone you talked to much he was smart, confident, and always seemed like he had it all figured out.

“Uh, yeah,” you admitted hesitantly, feeling a little embarrassed. “Math isn’t exactly my thing.”
