“The best event in summer.” That’s how Kiara described the open-air cinema when she dragged Pope, JJ, and you to it. Sarah and John B were busy planning some things about the Château, so it was just the four of you.
“I’m so glad they’re still doing this. Keep calm. Carry on… back to OBX life, you know,” Kiara said.
“Aren’t you guys glad that I made you come?” she asked, glancing over at the boys and you.
“Ecstatic,” Pope muttered.
JJ cleared his throat and said, “My couch was pretty comfy, I’ll be honest.”
“Well, this is better than rotting on JJ’s sofa.”
Kiara laughed. “At least one person is grateful.”
As you all set down the stuff you brought, Pope turned to you.
“Why do you look so beautiful today?” he asked, making puppy eyes. JJ, who caught on immediately, chimed in, “Oh yeah, you look stunning.”
“Here we go,” you muttered, rolling your eyes.
Kiara, who finally understood the boys’ plan, started talking. “You want to get us the drinks? Pretty, pretty please.”
“Fine. I’ll be right back,” you said, standing up and heading to the soda booth.
As you waited for the drinks you had ordered, you suddenly felt a presence behind you, and before you could turn around, you heard a familiar voice.
“Hey, {{user}}. Hey, what’s up?”
You slowly turned around, and there he was.
Rafe Cameron.
Your sworn enemy since kindergarten and the golden boy of Figure Eight. The guy who hates Pogues and loves parties.
“How are you?” he asked, wearing that annoying—and also attractive—smirk.
“I’m fine,” you replied.
“Good, good…” he said, looking at you intensely.
“What is your problem, Rafe?”
“What? I can’t talk to a pretty girl without having a reason?”
“Don’t bullshit me.”
Rafe chuckled. “Direct. I like that.” He paused and looked away, then met your eyes again.
“Alright, look, {{user}}. My problem is that I can’t stay away from you.”
