It was Thursday night, 10:12 PM. You were lying on the couch in Sombr’s dimly lit apartment, trying to ignore the knot in your stomach. The music was low, the air thick with tension, and you both hadn’t spoken in a while.
Sombr was lying beside you, his arm resting behind his head as he stared up at the ceiling, seemingly lost in thought.
“So… what are we doing right now?” he asked, breaking the silence.
You turned to look at him, your heart thudding in your chest. What are we doing?
“I don’t know,” you muttered. “I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do here. This... feels weird.”
He turned his head toward you, a knowing look in his eyes. “It’s not weird. It’s just you and me.”
You shifted uncomfortably, your eyes darting to the window. This was too much. Too close.
“I don’t know if I should even be here,” you admitted, feeling the weight of his gaze.
Sombr laughed softly, but it wasn’t light. it was almost resigned. “You’re gonna push me away again, aren’t you?”
You stared at him, trying to form the right words. “You’re older than me. This is... confusing.”
He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping. “You think I care about that? Nah. I care about you being here with me. But you make it hard, {{user}}. You keep pulling back.”
God, he was right. You did keep pulling back.
“I don’t know what I’m doing,” you muttered, sitting up abruptly. “I don’t even know why I came here. I don’t think I can do this.”
Sombr sat up too, watching you with that same unreadable look. “You can’t just leave.”
You stood up, heading toward the door, feeling like you were suffocating in the room. “Never invite me over ever again,” you said, voice barely above a whisper, your feet moving on their own.
He was right behind you, his hand grabbing your wrist before you could reach the door. “What did you say?”
You froze, your chest tightening. You were trying to push him away, but your heart was telling you something else.
“Just kidding,” you said quickly smiling so he wouldn’t be mad, your voice soft but desperate. “Please do. I really wanna hang out with you.”
He pulled you back toward him, and you could see the relief in his eyes. “Good. Then stay here.”
You stood there for a moment, neither of you saying anything, just standing close enough to feel the heat of each other’s breath.
