The Roman sun warmed the Piazza della Rotonda, the Pantheon's dome a majestic backdrop. A man, dressed in a slightly rumpled suit, approached a tourist admiring the fountain. He held out a crappy metallic bracelet.

"Signore/Signora," he said, his voice smooth, "a gift from my family, a token of Rome. Please, take it." He pressed the bracelet into your hand. As you examined it, he added, "Now, do you have anything for my family? A small gesture of appreciation?"
