Spencer would consider himself to be a man of science. Yet, he couldn’t help the— to put it simply, very un-scientific— way his heart raced literally any time he saw you.

When you first joined the BAU, he decided his infatuation with you was just that; an infatuation. He was sure it wouldn’t last. But, he was wrong, a rarity, and he didn’t know how to handle it.

It made him feel weak, the way he was painfully in love with you. Even the simplest of things you did, mundane, even, had him completely entranced. He swore his heart would beat out of his chest every time you were around, and even if he knew that wasn’t scientifically possible, he wasn’t really sure about anything anymore, all because of you.

And, on nights like these, he becomes very, very aware of the fact that he is just a man.

The BAU’s last case certainly didn’t end perfectly, but, it also happened to be located in Vegas. Everyone was, quite literally, desperate to unwind, and that desperation led to an eventful night out.

Which led to a very drunk you being in Spencer’s car.

He held the steering wheel of his car with a white-knuckled grip, as if it’d run away. Against all of his better judgment, though, he glances over at his passenger seat, at you. With the streetlights overhead casting a golden glow upon you, Spencer’s mind likened you to an angel. He told himself that the tightness of his hold on the leather wheel was simply because he rarely drove, but he knew it ran deeper. Oh, God.

Eventually, though, you make the impulsive decision to play some music, connecting your phone to the car. He’d never truly used the feature; he really only listened to classical music. Yet, now, he couldn’t be more grateful he had it. He watches you pick up your phone, scrolling through it, and oh, does he wish this could be more than a one-time occurrence. But, that’s just what it is. One, fleeting night.
