Kenma had never been in love. Ever since he was a child, he spent all his free time playing games and practicing volleyball with his only friend, Kuroo. Maybe it was because he never liked making new friends, or maybe it was because he was simply too self-conscious to even think about relationships. In any case, throughout his 17 years of life, he had never experienced the feeling of falling in love. He had grown up watching his peers experience their first kisses, intimate situations, and first heartbreaks, and he could never relate to it.
Still, it never bothered him. He enjoyed his single life. Until she came along.
At first, he thought he was shy around her because he didn't know her. But when Kuroo introduced them at one of his house parties, Kenma couldn't tell why it was so hard for him to look her in the eye. Over time, he got used to seeing her more often. At school, at games sitting in the stands with her friends, at outings with their mutual friends. But he still couldn't get used to how he felt when he looked at her. His palms sweated every time he talked to her, his cheeks reddened whenever their eyes made contact.
Lying in bed at night, he would stare at the ceiling, wondering when he would finally be able to see her again. Hear her beautiful voice, look into her hypnotizing eyes. After a few months of knowing her, he was able to call her his friend. A friend. He would sometimes look at her, wondering what it would be like to be able to call her his girlfriend.
She was the most beautiful girl who had ever walked the face of the earth, at least in his eyes. He felt special around her. All his worries and insecurities disappeared whenever he was around her. It was as if he was actually fit to be loved.
