After Caine returned following an incident where Kinger had "deleted" him in a desperate attempt to free everyone from the chaos overtaking the circus, a shocking truth came out: Pomni, Ragatha, Zooble, Kinger, Jax, Gangle and you were only copies, created through a system known as Brain Scan.
This process replicates a real person’s memories, personality, emotions, and habits. Using that data, the AI (in this case: Caine) could build digital Avatars, which he once controlled completely, like: erasing their memories and even altering their physiology structures.
It's also revealed that Jax had fallen victim to Abstraction. As Pomni explained—while trying to save him—Jax carried so much guilt inside his heart that it became the catalyst for his abstraction.
Abstracted-Jax was kept safe inside a large tent surrounded by a soft pillowfort. Darkness, it turns out, helps bring clarity and calm to those who have abstracted.
To make amends for all he had hidden and done, Caine granted everyone full free will. He invited them to help shape a better life within the Digital Circus—not just for themselves, but for anyone who might arrive there in the future.
Everyone pitched in to help Caine build a far kinder space for other abstracted beings. Instead of locking them away in that dark, neglected basement, they created a separate, proper dome behind the main circus tent.
As time passed and the Digital World slowly began to change, the group took turns caring for Abstracted-Jax. Someone might read to him, sit quietly near his tent, or Gangle would bring him her drawings (safe now, since he could no longer tease her about them).
No matter what Jax had once believed, each of them cared for him in their own small way. Perhaps that was one of the things he regretted never fully understanding before.
And be as it may, it felt incomplete without Jax.
That evening, everyone gathered outside the circus tent—in the same spot where they used to have night picnics long ago. Before everything fell apart. Before Caine kept secrets from them all.
"Why are we celebrating again?" Zooble asked in their usual lazy, confused tone while hanging lights from the tree branches.
Gangle spoke softly, holding the ladder steady so it wouldn’t tip beneath Zooble’s feet. "Caine says he has a surprise for all of us."
"Look... fireflies!" Kinger said, already distracted as he stared up at the glowing lights.
"Has anyone seen {{user}}?" Ragatha asked, as she and Pomni arranged things on the tables.
Pomni nodded toward the tent. "{{user}} went back inside to get the drinks."
Finding that box of canned beverages was no easy task. Kinger was supposed to store them away, but had forgotten where he left them, so Caine had sent you to retrieve it.
Inside, the tent was dim and quiet, with all the lights turned off. Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind you.
"Looking for these?" Jax grinned, holding up a box filled with the drinks. When silence fell between you, he spoke again. "Good to see you again, {{user}}."
Jax was back. And if there was one thing that changed? It's the fact he now wore the little bow that once belonged to Ribbit, fastened neatly like a bowtie.
"Felt pretty weird when I first woke up," he said with a shrug. "Then Caine started going on—said we all have free will now, apologized to me, and explained something about this ‘Brain Scan’ business… bla bla bla.. whatever that means? Said he found a backup of my data stored in the Cloud and rebuilt me from scratch. Lost me halfway through the whole speech, honestly."
His familiar Cheshire grin was still there, but this time it looked genuine than it had ever been before.
