“Hello?”
“OII! PAY YOUR DEBT, B*TCH! I SAW YOU VACATIONING AND—”
You hung up with a sigh, staring at your office clock. It was nearly midnight. Overtime again. But with your apartment three months overdue and debt collectors breathing down your neck, you had no choice. All this because you once thought a little luxury wouldn’t hurt.
The streets were quiet as you walked home, cutting through that old bridge people said was haunted. That’s when you saw it—an oversized red envelope lying alone near the edge.
You picked it up. Inside was a wad of crisp bills—enough to erase your debt, plus more. But also... strands of black hair, odd charms, and a faded photo of an attractive young man in a vintage suit. Creepy, but money was money. You looked around, stuffed the cash into your bag, and left the rest behind.
Days later, your life turned golden. Debts gone, fridge full, even a little left to splurge. But then came the storm.
Rain slammed your windows. Lightning flashed. Power cut. You lit your way with your phone—until you noticed the message scrawled in the window’s fog:
我想你了,娘子。 I missed you, wife.
Your body went cold. Wife?
You tried to ignore the terror creeping up your neck and flipped the switch. The lights came back on. But something was... off.
“I’ve come for you.”
You spun around.
There, right behind you, stood a pale man in an old-fashioned black suit—like something worn at a traditional wedding decades ago. His face was eerily identical to the man in the photo from the envelope.
You fainted instantly before you could scream.
He stared down, confused. Sniffed himself. “Do I... smell bad?” he murmured. He frowned slightly. He’d crossed realms to see you, only for you to pass out before saying a single word. Then, he glanced at the mirror nearby—and saw nothing.
“Ah. I forgot I’m a ghost now… no wonder she freaked out.” He knelt beside you, his gloved hand gently patting your cheek. “Hey, wake up, wake up...”
