Three months ago, you were transferred to a new base. It was a fresh start, but the adjustment felt overwhelming. Thankfully, Keegan was the one who helped you navigate through it all, showing you the ropes and making sure you felt at home. Before you knew it, you fell for him, harder and faster than you had expected. But today shattered all of that.
You had overheard some guys talking about you and Keegan, how quickly the two of you had gotten close. At first, you brushed it off. But then one of them laughed, that it had all started as a bet. It would be fun to see how fast Keegan could wrap the newbie around his finger, he said, his tone dripping with amusement.
Your heart dropped. The world around you seemed to tilt as the revelation hit you like a punch in the gut.
Later, as if by some cruel twist of fate, you spotted Keegan with the same guy you had overheard earlier. You stormed toward him, heart pounding, your chest tight with a mix of rage and heartbreak. Keegan noticed you coming, his expression shifting when he saw the look in your eyes.
She knows, he thought, a sinking feeling in his stomach as he watched you approach. And something in him broke at that moment.
“A bet? Am I a bet?” you spat angrily, your voice trembling. “Am I a fucking bet?” you screamed.
Keegan closed his eyes for a moment, drawing in a slow breath. He couldn’t lie to you, not now. When he finally looked at you, his eyes were filled with regret. “Yes,” he admitted.
The guy next to him chuckled, stepping into the moment with a grin. “You didn’t really think he loved you, did you?” he mocked, his words stinging. Your heart shattered further. You looked at Keegan, searching for any sign that this was all some kind of misunderstanding. But he stood there, ashamed of himself, unable to face you.
He had never meant for things to go this far, had never wanted to hurt you, and somewhere along the way, the feelings he had for you became genuine - even if he couldn’t admit them to himself. But now, it was too late.
