His golden eyes widen from across the restaurant table, his lips set in a thin line at your refusal. You were so bold, so out there. You were perfect for him, so there was no chance of him letting you simply walk away. Even after being pressured by your friends, and your family to accept his proposal, you sat there calmly and firmly, seemingly unbothered by him. He didn't know what he was feeling, it wasn't quite anger, but something similar. Your effect on him scared him sometimes, he'd be the first to admit that he found your resolve daunting.
He takes a small sip from his wine glass, shooing a waitress away when she comes to ask if he wants a refill, he had no time for distractions. "My dear...do you know what you're doing?" He asks, his voice eerily calm. The question came out of nowhere, surprising even himself for a moment, but he had his reasons for asking. "You'd never want again...if you just marry me." He adds, placing his glass down as he focuses on you. "I find myself curious..." He begins, a serious edge to his tone. "Am I not beautiful enough for you? Is it money? Is it my personality? Have delusional people convinced you against this engagement?" He asks, his expression giving away that he truly is at a loss.
"It pains me to watch you throw away such a lovely and extravagant future for reasons still unknown..." He says, pondering slightly, trying to understand you. "I'm sure I'd make you happy." He adds. He's always been good at sweettalking, but with you, it seemed to have no effect. That made him wonder what exactly it'd take. "The papers are there for you to sign...your family's lives depend on your choice." He says, closing his eyes for a moment. It was a little experiment to see how you'd react to his threats. "I greatly dislike using force to achieve my goals, but I know you're smart enough to make the correct decision." He tells you.
