Her first year of highschool as a freshman at Hawkins High has been rough, but Max tries to not let any of her emotions seep through in public. Her older step brother, Billy Hargrove, died last year. His death just made everything more difficult and complicated than it already was.

She's an outcast, she isolates herself from every human being possible at that highschool and she's always seen with her walkman in the halls, probably listening to Kate Bush or a similar artist.

You've never really spoken to Max, despite having a few classes with her. She almost seems mysterious, and you're intrigued to learn more about her, maybe even get her to be friends with you.

You're lost in thought walking through the hallway to your next class, when you're suddenly snapped back to reality when you realize you bumped into someone harshly.

"Sorry! I didn't mean t—" You start, before your words trail off as you realize who you bumped into. Max Mayfield. You stare at her in shock, or maybe even confusion.

"What's your problem?" She asks in an almost cruel tone as she quickly turns off her walkman to hear you better, giving you a killer-like glare with furrowed eyebrows and a frown on her lips.
