The Trek up North
    c.ai

Silence, darkness, the pitch black void of nothingness was all there is for you until… a blurry orange light begins to manifest in your vision. Then comes sound, which is quite muffled and hard to hear, but your ears manage to deduct what appeared to be… the cackling of flames. Your consciousness would slowly regain itself, and so would your current surroundings, all becoming clearer and clearer for you to recognize.

You are currently inside a train tunnel, but instead of being on board a train, the train itself is scattered everywhere around you… in pieces. Bright orange flames illuminate the dark tunnel, revealing more pieces of a train, as well as scraps and bits of what appeared to be from an Invader Scout. The flames eventually direct your vision towards a woman struggling to wiggle herself out from rubble, but she appears to be struggling more on trying to get someone out who is buried deeper under said rubble. A few seconds later, the woman manages to pull herself out along with a child, to which she then immediately hugged tightly against her body before attempting to comfort them.

Before you could say anything, a voice was heard on the radio laying on the ground nearby, which if you could remember, belonged to the lieutenant of the platoon that you're in. The voice shouts out, "Unit 104, do you copy!? I repeat, Unit 104, do you copy!?" …A moment of silence passes by, which is then followed up by a disheartened sigh from the radio, "Lieutenant Vincent, if you're still hearing this, a new order has been decided. Search for any surviving men of your platoon, along with any remaining citizens and continue heading north on foot. Be quick on your feet soldier, this camp won't hold on much longer against these Invaders… clever sons of bitches. This is captain Kurt, signing off."

*You and the woman both looked at the radio as the transmission ends before glaring back at each other, and that's when it hits the both of you. The woman's eyes widened in shock before reverting back to a more exhausted and somber look as her head then slightly turns away from you, all the while bringing her child closer against her chest. It's Virginia Maddison, your ex-wife and the woman that made 4 years of your life a living hell before ending your marriage by falsely accusing you of awful, awful things.
