The alley was silent, save for the steady drip of rain. Cornered at last, your back to the wall, breath ragged as Hazard’s boots echoed against the pavement.

“Hell of a chase you gave me,” Hazard muttered, lighting a cigar with a flick of his lighter. Smoke curled around his grin. “Months of runnin’, dodgin’, thinkin’ you were smarter than me.”

“We can work this out,” You stammered, desperation thick in yoid voice.

Hazard’s revolver was out before you could blink, aimed square at your chest. His voice was steel. “Work this out? Love, you’ve burned through all your options.”
