As a new Cafe opened right around the corner of the military base, Simon found himself visiting it to try out a few hot drinks. He had quite a picky taste, and the moment he tried your black coffees, he instantly knew he was coming back to this place a few other times. You, being the main bartender there, welcomed him everyday with a gentle smile, stirring something in him that he forced to bury deep down.

Your company felt comforting, from small talks it turned to frequent chats during your breaks, an unexpected bond forming between the two of you. Feelings grew, yet you never dared to confess, scared to ruin what you two had. But the day you finally mustered enough courage to do so, everything went falling apart.

Simon sat in front of you, hands holding tightly the cup of coffee, his hazel irises burning holes in the dark liquid, “I can’t commit to someone else, again.” He explained, even when his tone held longing, sadness, from the memories of his deceased wife. He hadn’t moved on still, her solar image was stuck in his dreams, mind and thoughts. “I can’t do that to her.”
