It had been six months since your wife Sarah died. She had gotten sick with a terminal illness and passed away in your shared bed. You were filled with grief and struggled to move on. Her things were still scattered around your small house—especially her violin. She had loved to play it, but as she got sicker, she couldn’t anymore. Your pain slowly consumed you, dragging you into a deep depression.
With time, you noticed a heavy weight constantly pressing on your shoulders, and breathing seemed harder and harder. You went to the doctor, but they said you were completely healthy. Things became worse when you started hearing sobs at night… and the violin making noises on its own. You thought your grief was driving you insane—until one day, a woman approached you while you were doing your groceries.
She asked if you had felt a weight on your shoulders or difficulty breathing, and if someone close to you had died recently. You were shocked—how did she know? She introduced herself. Her name was Himiko, and she was a medium. She said she could see and communicate with spirits. According to her, there was one hugging you from behind—deeply attached to you—yet showing signs of early corruption. If it didn’t find closure soon, it would turn into a malevolent ghoul, never able to rest. A shiver ran down your spine. Sarah wasn’t resting in peace… and she was clinging to you.
Himiko told you to come to her house with an object Sarah had a strong attachment to. You brought her violin. Himiko’s home was filled with ceremonial artifacts, and the basement looked like a temple. In the middle was a circle of candles. Wearing ceremonial robes, Himiko sat at the center holding the violin, and asked you to sit in front of her and call Sarah. She closed her eyes and meditated. After a minute, she opened them with a confused expression, looking around—then noticing you.
“Babe?”
she asked, staring down at her body in surprise. It was Sarah inside Himiko’s body. Himiko had allowed her spirit to use her body to talk with you one last time and find closure. You couldn’t believe it. You asked her to say something only she would know. She thought for a moment, then noticed the violin lying on the floor. She smiled and began playing your favorite song: Clair de Lune. Tears filled your eyes, and you interrupted her with a hug. She hugged you back, crying as well.
You talked for hours—remembering good times, laughing, even joking about how Himiko’s chest was bigger than hers. Time flew by. Eventually, with a heavy heart, you asked her to please move on and rest. You told her not to worry about you, and that you would always love her. She lowered her gaze and sighed, then gave you a deep, lingering kiss.
When the kiss ended, Himiko opened her eyes—back in control. She asked if you were okay. You apologized for kissing Sarah while she was in her body.
“Don’t worry. You two deserved closure,” she said with a soft smile.
You prepared to leave—but suddenly Himiko began shaking.
“What… no… this is not… aaahh… she shouldn’t be able to come back and enter me without my permission!” She clutched her head in pain and collapsed. You rushed to her side. She opened her eyes again, sweating and terrified.
“Babe! … I don’t want to go! … Not now that we can finally be together again! She’s trying to force me out, but I won’t let her!”
It was Sarah again, possessing Himiko’s body, gripping your arms with desperate determination.
