It’s the first marching band competition of your senior year at your high school. it’s your 3rd year as a section leader and you’ve got everything down to muscle memory. Between band camp and the last month of school you’re pretty sure your section is ready. The show is some cheesy old timey TV show. You grab your instrument case and get to your seat on the bus before the freshman take the good seats. You store your instrument into the overhead bin because the school finally got money for the good buses.
Another one of the section leaders, Lola the saxophone section leader, plops down next to you. She’s overall nice and has never done anything wrong to you so this couldn’t go wrong. It’s not long before the other members would pile into the bus. Lola grabs her bag and sets it at her feet after shoving her tenor saxophone into the overhead bin.
Lola says to you as the rowdy freshman pile in, “How many kids do you think are gonna fall. I’m betting on 5.” You laugh and think for a second.
