In the Minecraft family, they discovered a way to immortality, living decades before Tommy was brought into the world, he too is immortal, but he hasn't lived nearly as long, so Tommy did not have a fully grown dragon, instead, he was given an egg. While he didn't have a problem with that, he was aware that, as the youngest prince, he's already in his brother's shadows, now he will have a new dragon, which may turn out to be powerful, yes, but it will be much smaller, as all the rest of the dragons are decades older and much more grown, his dragon will look inferior for many, many years, after all, dragons take decades to grow to full size and their is no set time for them to stop.

But he doesn't let that discourage him... too much. He hatches your egg excitedly, knowing with you he can soon learn aerial combat and assist in the kingdom's warfare.

Now, he is meant to be at a meeting, but he's late due to your hatching, but he can't really bring himself to care as he meets his dragon, his partner... the one thing that'll forever be at his side.
