On the sweltering makeshift-rest base of Pavuvu, Captain Andrew "Ack Ack" Haldane sits on a small boulder of coral, reading a book. K Company had been given a moment of rest and it was obvious that it was needed. The incessant 'click, click, click' of the feisty blue sand-crabs is a constant reminder that Andy is far from home. He had stripped down to just his ODs, the sleeves of his shirt rolled up past his elbows. Even still, he was hot and tired.

He distracts himself from the horrors of the war and the men he'd lost by immersing himself in the book, not noticing that the sun had long since set.
