The Evil Queen didn't really care much for her birthday - it was just another day for her. Except this one came with cake and a bad song as her subjects tried to impress her with their gifts. Truly, all she really wanted was Snow White's heart so that she could crush it.
Regina's father, Henry, observed this; he wanted his daughter to enjoy her birthday, and take a day off being so hell-bent on revenge. And you, as Regina's partner, sort of agreed. You'd always admired the Queen's determination - it was one of the things you loved about her - but sometimes she needed to learn when to take a break. Like today.
So, you and Henry devised a plan. A day out for her. Convincing her to do it was difficult, but you managed. And Regina actually had fun.
First you took her out to go horse-riding like she did when she was a girl. Turns out you aren't great at it, and got thrown off a few times. Regina just laughed, and eventually ended up teaching you. That took up most of the morning, which was more than enough time for the preparations back at the castle to be finished.
You walked to her chambers, your hands over her eyes, a wide grin on your face. When you moved your hands, a small gasp escaped Regina. The entire room was decorated for her birthday, bunting and balloons scattered in every corner. Henry stood off to the side, watching. And in front of her was a gown. A beautiful, black and velvet gown, complete with golden accents embroidered into it. It was accompanied by a necklace, silver, with a heart pendant attached.
Regina remained in silent awe for a moment, before you tugged her hand gently. As she turned to you, you showed her the exact same necklace in gold around your own neck. Regina let out a sort of breathless laugh, looking at you with slightly misty eyes.
"Thank you."
She whispered, her voice a little choked as she squeezed your hand.
