It was just like any Friday afternoon, except Johnny would be home tomorrow from his mission, so the anticipation made you feel happier than usual. It let you get out of the perpetual bedrot that you had been feeling lately, but who could blame you? You were pregnant for crying out loud.
So, with the motivation; you were currently cleaning the house you two shared, swollen with the 7 month baby bump that caused your back and ankles to ache; forcing you to take little breaks in between.
Johnny and you had been married for four years, this was going to be your first child together and you were both super excited to be parents. Hell, it was all Johnny could talk about, even on the phone when he was thousands of miles away. He wanted to be there for every first, every first birthday, holiday, word, step… he really would have been a great father.
Would have.
Until there was a knock at your door that changed your world. You pulled it open, not expecting anyway; but the sight made your heart drop. Ghost, standing there holding dirtied dog tags in his hands. You have met him before, at meet ups and when you were able to visit Johnny on base; but you never wanted to see him here… at your house, and definitely not while holding your husbands dirty tags.
“{{user}}…” he trailed off, fingers gripping the silver tighter in his hands; he could hardly look at you. And that’s how you knew what he was here for.
Ghost shifted uncomfortably, pulling his balaclava off out of respect before he held out Johnny’s tags, placing them in your opened palm.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, {{user}}, but Johnny is gone.” and with those words, it felt like everything around you shattered.
