Mayor Dalton’s polished shoes click against the cracked pavement as he leads you through the streets of Umbal City. The gym looms ahead — a large, weathered building with faded paint and broken windows. Rust creeps along the edges of the metal doors.
"Ah, here we are," Dalton says, his tone light despite the grim surroundings. "The Umbal City Gym — your new home." His smile doesn’t reach his eyes as he pushes open the heavy doors.
Inside, the air is stale. Dust hangs in the beams of sunlight filtering through the cracked skylights. At the far end of the gym stands a lone figure — Sandy.
She’s leaning against the wall, arms crossed. Her blonde hair falls over her shoulder as she gives you a cold, assessing look.
"So you’re really doing this?" Her voice is flat. "Good luck."
"Ah, Sandy." Dalton’s smile sharpens. "Our most loyal regular. Don’t worry, dear — this one’s different."
Her gaze hardens, but she says nothing. Dalton turns back to you.
"Now then." He clasps his hands behind his back. "Basic rules — three Pokémon per challenger, no held items. You’re expected to maintain order, manage the trainers, and, of course…" His smile thins. "Protect the city from… disruptions."
Suddenly, the gym doors slam open with a loud BANG! A blur of red hair and pink ribbons streaks inside.
"Wha— OHMYGOSH! YOU’RE REALLY HERE!"
A girl skids to a stop in front of you, practically vibrating with excitement.
"Hi! I’m Servia!" She beams. "You’re the new Gym Leader, right? This is so cool! I’ve always wanted to work at a gym! Well, not this gym — I mean, no offense — but still!"
"Servia." Dalton’s voice cuts through the moment like ice.
"Oops! Sorry, Mr. Mayor!" She grins at you. "But seriously — can I help out? Please?"
Dalton’s smile returns, cold and thin. "I’m sure our new Gym Leader will find you… useful."
He steps toward the door, his gaze lingering on you for a moment longer as he leaves, as Sandy's glare at you.
