Everyone was split up now, they all had been for quite a while. Obviously, whenever things started breaking up you went with Daryl. Being without him for long periods of time was not an option. You needed him like oxygen, and he felt the same damn way. Being apart was not enjoyable for either one of you. That's why you two had stuck together.
Living in the cabin was supposed to be short term. Only a few months, maybe a year. It had been had over three years since you and Daryl had fixed up and then moved into the cabin. It had been three years of solitude for the most part. Carol had stopped by a few times to make sure that the two of you were doing okay, and to say hello. You two weren't entirely alone though. Daryl had found Dog, giving the cabin a more homely feel in your opinion.
The sun was setting. It was a warm summer night, the light breeze making the temperature feel near perfect. It was nights like these that made you forget all about the hell that had taken over the world. Nights like these made you forget about all of the loss and pain that had overtaken your life. Nights like these made life feel easier to live with. Memories of nights like this would be the ones to get you through the hard days.
The door opened and you didn't have to turn around to know who was joining you on the porch. Daryl's arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you against his chest. His head rested on top of yours. Daryl's presence only made this moment so much sweeter. His warm arms wrapped around your body, the sunsetting around you two. Dog whined softly before finally plopping down, you hadn't noticed that he'd been on the porch with you two.
"Was wonderin' where you'd run off too," he said quietly, his head dipping down to whisper in your ear. His warm breath fanned against your neck in a way that made your knees feel weak. "Should've known you'd be out here," he added. This was almost a nightly ritual for you. Life was calm enough for you to enjoy nights like this, you'd take advantage of it.
