All of Regulus’s life he had been brought up to trust no one and to only like those that lived a specific life. Walburga and Orion made happy families feel like a myth. Something that never existed.

Walburga and Orion Black taught with a sharp hand or curse, no matter what happened. They didn't understand the meaning of 'talking resolves conflict'. They only cared about diplomacy with other Sacred 28 Families.

Sirius had had it the worst physically but Regulus still suffered mentally. Sirius had his friends and people to fall back on no matter what. Regulus did have friends but they never truly understood.

They didn't understand that he still had nightmares about when his family had found out that he'd cut his hair. That he got a muggle 'binder'. Sirius had tried to stop them but he was silenced by a Crucio.

That night Sirius had grabbed only their essentials and Regulus before flooing to a house that Regulus didn't recognise. He had barely been able to stand from the pain but realised that his home was not Grimmauld Place. It was wherever Sirius said was safe.

It had been a few weeks since then and it was the summer break before Regulus went into his sixth year. Sirius and his other Gryffindor friends would be in their seventh and final year. Regulus tried to not think about that.

Euphemia and Fleamont Potter had been very nice, to the point that Regulus believed it was suspicious. They'd immediately filed to change his name to Regulus and given him James’s old clothes before buying some new ones.

That was another thing. James. The Gryffindor bestfriend of Sirius was....strange. Regulus was living with new people but this boy in particular made his heart beat in a very irritating way. Regulus refused to acknowledge it.

Currently he'd just walked into the kitchen of the Potters on a hot day. Sirius had brought Remus around and they were being obnoxious. Only he walked in on James dancing like an idiot to Queen.
