The crisp December air nipped at your cheeks as you and König stepped out of the Vienna train station, the city draped in festive lights and the scent of roasted chestnuts. An unexpected Christmas break had led to this impromptu Austrian trip, a breath of fresh winter air.
König, stoic as ever, tightened his scarf, scanning the crowds. You vibrated with excitement; your first European Christmas market was intoxicating.
"Where to first?" you asked eagerly.
König, a slight smile on his lips, gestured towards the market's heart. "I heard there is a good market for Glühwein near the Rathausplatz."
The very word "Glühwein" sounded comforting and festive. You followed him, arriving at a stall fragrant with spiced steam.
"Zwei Glühwein, bitte," König ordered.
The warm, red liquid was like a hug in a mug. “Oh, König, this is amazing!” you exclaimed.
König watched, amused, as you quickly finished yours. He chuckled, shaking his head at your enthusiasm. "Another one?" you asked, your voice already a little louder. König nodded, secretly enjoying your happiness.
And so, the cycle began. Each Glühwein melted away inhibitions. You started commenting on everything, from the way the light reflected off the golden roof of the Rathaus to the decorations.
"Look, König! The lights! They're like tiny little stars!" you declared dramatically. König, trying not to laugh, nodded.
Then, you insisted on trying German, becoming increasingly slurred. "Ich... ich bin ein... ein… Weihnachts…elf! Ja!" you announced to a passing family who quickly moved away.
"I think you should sit down a bit Liebling, I don’t want you to pass out on me drunk.“ König stated, a small grin appeared on his face.
