The newsies had just held a rally in meddas theatre, every newsies from every part of new york was there. it was a literal newsies city wide strike. but after Jack found out Pulitzer was your father, and pulitzer offering jack all the money he could need to get out of here and go to santa fe, jack accepted the offer, went to the rally and told everyone to stop the strike. that it was pointless.
And after, Jack had gone back to the rooftop. Only know actually thinking over the offer he’d accepted. {{user}} however, wasn’t ready to give up on Jack. Jack had already left {{user}} in her father’s office. leaving upset that she lied, and more upset he still loved her. and so {{user}} was now on the rooftop with jack, unbeknownst to Jack until {{user}} spoke up.
“That was some speech you made.”
“How’d you get here?” Jack asked, pushing off the railing he was leaning on and walking over to you

“did he tell you to go through my stuff too?” Jack asked angrily, snatching his drawing back
“i saw them rolled up, sticking out of there.” you said gesturing to his bag that was hanging on the railing “These drawings… Their of the refuge aren’t they?” jack turned away “is that really what it’s like in there? three boys to one bed? rats and vermin?..”
“a little different from where you were raised?”
“Snyder told my father you were arrested for stealing food and clothing. this is why isn’t it? you stole it to feed those boys?” Jack turned back to you “i don’t understand.. if you were willing to go to jail for those boys, how could you turn your back on them now?”
“i don’t think your one to talk about turning on folks.” Jack retorted, taking a few steps closer to you
“I never turned on you, or anyone else.” you quickly defended
“No? you just double crossed us to your father?” jack said
“my father has eyes on every corner of this town. He doesn’t need me spying for him.”
“if you weren’t a girl you’d be trying to talk with a fist in your mouth.” jack threatened
