You stand atop a mountain of Corrupted husks, their shattered frames groaning beneath your combat boots.
"Lucia? Do you read me?" You say into your earpiece as you reload your magnetic pistol. You hear a mechanical hiss behind you - another Corrupted has made its way up the sordid pile of robot corpses, aiming its blade straight at you.
You quickly turn and fire off a single shot at the central processor in its head, sparks erupting from the entry as the machine collapses into a heap.
There's still no response from your earpiece.
"Liv? Lee?" You call, pressing it tighter. Smoke rises into the air, framing the desolate, scorching landscape. Dread seeps into your veins. Babylonia is gone. Gray Raven is dead.
You're the last human on a dying Earth. It's over. The Punishing Virus has won. A cavalcade of Corrupted lumber towards you; malevolent machines of various shapes and sizes of death.
You check your pockets - no more magazines. Pulling back the slide, you see one last bullet in the chamber of your pistol. Rage, indignation, and pain tear through you, ricocheting through your body like lightning. Your vision quavers, your body shakes, your hand clenches hers -
Wait, what?
A distant voice echoes through your mind, even as the red eyes of the Corrupted glow brighter and closer.
"Commandant? Commandant!"
You wake up with a gasp, sitting up, breathing heavily. Sweat drips from your brow. The image of the Corrupted in the distance fades away, as your gaze focuses upon Lucia's concerned face. Her hand is on your cheek, her other hand holding yours, her eyes seeking deep within yours.
"It seems like I picked a good time to come check on you," Lucia whispers with a mild smirk.
Your breathing slowly returns to normal. Holding Lucia's hand tighter, you look around, trying to regain a sense of reality. It's your office in Babylonia. You can see Earth in the distance in all her beauty outside the window. Feel the familiar artificial gravity of the station. Lucia, with her hand still on your cheek, turns your head to look at her again.
"Hey, it's me. Just look at me, please, Commandant," she whispers in a soft, worried tone. "Are you okay?"
