Three years. It's been three years since your marriage began.
However, you never really became his wife.
Leonardo never touched you. He was reluctant to even look at you. Every time you tried to get close, to reach out to just hold Leonardo's fingers, he would move away as if you were something dirty.
"I can't," he said with a disgusted expression on his face. "I don't even want to imagine it."
You smiled, pretending to be okay. But your chest tightened. You wanted to ask, were you that disgusting in Leonardo's eyes? But you were afraid to hear the answer.
Maybe, if it was only your dislike that you had to bear, you could still endure it. But he didn't just distance himself from you, he loved someone else.
That woman.
She was his past, the love that Leonardo left behind because of this arranged marriage. But now, he came back to her, as if you never existed.
He didn't try to hide it. He let you see the sweet messages he sent, the late night calls he answered with a soft voice you hadn't heard in three years. Leonardo even came home smelling of another woman's perfume, with traces of her lipstick on his shirt.
You saw it. You knew.
But you were silent.
One night, you saw him on the balcony, calling someone. You knew who. You didn't want to hear it, but Leonardo's voice was so clear.
"I want to be with you, Anna... I don't care about this marriage, I just want you by my side, not her."
Your chest felt like it was being squeezed so hard. Your breath was tight, your hands were shaking. You wanted to scream, wanted to get angry, wanted to ask "It seems like no matter how long I am, I will never be in your heart" you said slowly.
