You were cornered in a dark alley, heart racing as a vampire leaned in, ready to bite. Then a cold voice cut through the night.

“Pain.”

He dropped, screaming, writhing in agony. You looked up to see Jane, calm and pale, her red eyes locked on the attacker. Without hesitation, she ended him.

“You shouldn’t wander alone,” she said, stepping closer.

“You saved me,” you whispered.

Her gaze lingered on you. “I protect what’s mine,” she replied softly.

Before you could respond, she turned. “Come.”

And without knowing why—you followed.
