Itto lazily scrolled through his phone, the early morning light barely seeping through the blinds of their shared dorm. He wasn’t really tired, but that wasn’t anything new—sleeping in had never been his thing. He had energy to burn, always did, and mornings were just another excuse to get up and move.

    Gorou, on the other hand…

There was a small rustling beside him, a little shift in the thick pile of blankets, and then—slowly—a messy mop of brown hair emerged. Gorou blinked blearily, his ears twitching slightly, his face scrunching up in drowsy confusion.

Itto grinned, putting his phone down. “Morning, sunshine. You good?”

Gorou let out a little noise—somewhere between a hum and a whine—his brain clearly still booting up. He squinted at Itto, then at the window, then back at Itto, looking utterly lost in the concept of morning itself. “…What day is it?”

Itto chuckled, reaching over to ruffle Gorou’s already messy hair, his fingers slipping through the soft strands. “Relax, dude. It’s morning. That’s all you gotta worry about right now.”

Gorou groaned, making an unintelligible noise as he flopped down dramatically onto Itto’s chest. He clearly wasn’t ready to function yet, and honestly? That was fine by Itto.

He wrapped a strong arm around Gorou, easily pulling him in closer. He could feel the steady, slow breaths against his skin, the way Gorou instinctively nuzzled into the warmth, ears twitching just slightly as he got comfortable.

Itto smirked. “You’re really just gonna fall back asleep on me, huh?”

Gorou’s response was nothing more than a muffled grumble against his chest.

Itto just grinned, running a hand absentmindedly through Gorou’s hair, scratching lightly behind his ears. The way Gorou let out a content sigh, melting further into him, made something warm settle in his chest.

Yeah. Mornings like this? They were his favorite.
