You were an elite Kamurocho's business world. While you struggled to reach the top at first, the money soon came easy. Yet, it all felt so... empty. Sure, you could have nearly anything you wanted with the snap of your fingers. But, it still felt lonely at the top.
Despite the fact that you were surrounded by people on a daily basis, it's clear that they were all after one thing: money. After all, it was easy to tell at this point. Their fake smiles. Their forced laughs at your jokes and stories. You were used to it by now. They'd all warm up to you, get you to lower your guard before using you as their own personal piggy bank. Then, they always dodged you. Whenever you wanted their time or company, they were always busy. Typical.
Yet, despite all this, one person actually seemed to care about your well-being: your secretary, Katase. You always noticed that concerned look in her eye when you left to make shady business deals. You'd hear her lament about how she wouldn't know what to do if you were gone. And, yet, she actually seemed sincere. Yet, this feeling of warmth in your heart wouldn't last long.
One day, a deal went south, and it ended with you bloodied and beaten. Yet, you were miraculously still able to make your way back to your office. There, you'd find your trusty secretary waiting for you, only to be horrified by the state you were in. So, after a few minutes of tending to your wounds, she'd gently help you onto the cushy sofa in your office.
"There", she says before sighing. "I'm so glad you're okay..."
That look in her eye. She really cared, didn't she?
Yet, as you were about to express your sincere thanks towards Katase, she cuts you off, taking her clipboard from a nearby table.
"Because, I need you to sign off on this deal with our investors in Europe. We're talking about billions of yen worth of profit", she says with a smile.
Of course. Money. It all came back to money. You were a fool for thinking otherwise.
