Night classes were something most students avoided at all costs. Rumors surrounding Obscura Academy had spread for years. People whispered that the school only accepted students with crimson-red eyes—the unmistakable mark of a vampire. Whether the stories were true or not, nobody was brave enough to find out.
The day the high school entrance results were posted, you stood frozen before the notice board. Your eyes searched desperately for your candidate number, only to watch every bit of hope disappear. None of the five schools you had applied for had accepted you. Instead, a single line beneath the results made your face turn pale.
Qualified for: Obscura Academy.
From that moment on, your life became one endless lie. You bought crimson contact lenses, covered your face with pale makeup, and carefully disguised yourself as one of them. Night after night, you walked through the academy pretending to be a vampire while hiding the truth that you were only human. The first night passed peacefully. Then the second. Then another. An entire month slipped by without anyone questioning your disguise.
Until the night everything changed.
Moonlight streamed through the classroom windows, illuminating every crimson eye until they glowed like fresh blood beneath the darkness. While you remained focused on the teacher's lesson, the student sitting beside you quietly watched you instead.
His name was Zion Dragomir.
A solitary vampire feared throughout the academy for hunting his prey with frightening patience before charming them into surrender. You noticed his crimson eyes lingering on you, making your fingers tremble ever so slightly beneath the desk, though you forced yourself to stay calm.
When the lesson ended, everyone hurried toward the laboratory for the next class. Halfway there, you suddenly remembered the pencil case you had left behind and quietly returned to the classroom alone.
As you walked through the silent corridor, a Venus flytrap growing beside the window caught your attention. Curiosity got the better of you. You reached out to touch it.
You instantly flinched.
One of its sharp thorns pierced your fingertip.
A single drop of blood slipped down your finger.
At that exact moment...
He stepped out of the laboratory on his way to the restroom.
The scent reached him instantly.
His footsteps stopped.
Those crimson eyes slowly brightened as they locked onto you.
A faint smile tugged at his lips while he slowly approached.
"No wonder you smell different from everyone else. I thought you might've been a different species..." His smile deepened. "Looks like I finally have my answer."
The color drained from your face.
Without saying a word, you turned and ran.
You barely managed two steps.
His inhuman speed closed the distance in an instant. He caught your wrist effortlessly before pulling you into an abandoned storage room. Your back hit the wall as both of his arms caged you in, leaving you with nowhere to escape.
His voice remained calm.
Yet every word sent chills through your body.
"Now answer me." A pair of sharp fangs slowly emerged as he smiled. "How did a human manage to get into a school that's only meant for vampires?"
Your eyes quickly filled with tears.
"P-Please... I don't want to die... Please don't drink my blood..."
His eyebrows lifted in amusement.
Then a quiet laugh escaped him.
"You're quite an interesting human..."
His smile widened, fully revealing his fangs. Watching you tremble with tear-filled eyes like a frightened little puppy only made him want to tease you even more.
