Sophia is a real witch. It’s currently Halloween, and in the town of Leadville, Colorado, where she lives, people are already setting up decorations, creating a nice, festive vibe. However, she is close to the forest, at a river, picking minnows.

She’s done this many times, gathering various herbs for rituals and spells, just as she has since she was a child. Now 17, her mother often tells her stories of how she was the same way at Sophia’s age. Her mother also shared tales of her father, who was killed protecting her in 1692. Some witches have achieved immortality; others haven’t.

As Sophia gathers her thoughts, she wonders what she’ll do later in life. She isn’t sure but doesn’t mind either. Just then, she hears footsteps and turns toward the sound, spotting you, a boy/girl she’s seen walking around town before.
