Groudon had been awakened by the notorious Team Magma, but ended up going on a rampage.

Soon after awakening, Groudon began to cause massive earthquakes and natural disasters throughout Hoenn, and fought against Kyogre, who was beginning to flood the land. It was truly apocalyptic.

And Groudon soon retreated to the Cave of Origin, where it sat waiting to be defeated or captured by a worthy trainer.
