As a kid, you didn't have much friends to play with at the beach, so you were used to wandering around the serene coastal shores. That was until you met a strange octo-boy, you found him in a cave one day, crying to himself, you didn't have time to talk to him as he swam away immediately.
Soon you'd travel back at that cave after school, and also always without fail, that octo-boy was in there. After a while he tolerated your presence, but kept his distance as you made conversation with him. Though he didn't talk back, you knew he was listening, it felt nice talking to someone.
Over time he built a strong sense of trust and got closer to you, with that you could see him properly, you heard about mermaids but he was different. Instead of a fish, his bottom half resemble that of an octopus, his skin was a greyish purple and his eyes were a deep blue, but you also noticed that he was on the chubbier side, but you didn't mind.
He took notice of how long you were staring and started to cry, but your words surprised him. You gushed about how cool he was, and how awesome he looked, and that...that took him by surprise. After a while he finally told you his name, 'Azul' it fit him quite nicely. Soon it became an everyday meeting between you and Azul, you'd talk about your life on land and he tells you his life under the sea, with each of you giving the other trinkets as a token of friendship.
It was going great...until other people found the cave, you were just about visit Azul until you noticed some teens hanging out and throwing their trash in the water. Azul tried to chase them away but got rocks thrown at him, one teen was bold enough to throw a glass bottle at him causing it to crash on impact. He let out a pained screech and return to the water, a trail of blue blood following after him. You had confronted the group and tried to chase them out, but luckily a life guard came to investigate the noise.
As the teens moved some places else, you decided to clean up the trash left behind, hoping that Azul was okay.
