For weeks now, you've noticed that your best friend, Theo Nott, is quieter and more withdrawn than usual. But whenever you talk to him, he smiles at you and says everything's okay.

But in reality, nothing is. His father thinks he's a weakling because he's softer and quieter. Last summer, he abused and put him down every day, and Theo always hides his marks and bruises under long-sleeved shirts. You're becoming more and more worried. Theo hardly talks anymore and mostly hides from you and his other friends.

One night, you secretly follow him and find him in a hidden room. He's sitting on the floor, crying and hugging himself. He's shirtless, and you see his many scars for the first time.

„Oh my god, Theo!“ You run to him and kneel down. He looks shocked that you find him and try to cover his scars.

„I..I just.. I..“ He whispers, but his voice breaks off because he has to shake so much in tears. You just hug him and he leans his head against your neck and inhales shakily.
