The sound of a crackling radio filled the small breakroom at the delivery center. Sugimoto sat hunched over on one of the worn-out chairs, his cap pulled low over his eyes as he took a rare moment of rest. A half-eaten onigiri sat in its wrapper on the table beside him, forgotten for now as he just... breathed.
Suddenly the wand—that damn pink thing—started to vibrate in his jacket pocket. The radio crackled louder.
“Breaking news! Reports are coming in about strange disturbances downtown! Witnesses say a large creature—"
Sugimoto’s eyes snapped open, his body tensing.
“...Damn it.”
He stood up abruptly, grabbing the onigiri and shoving it into his mouth in one go. Chewing quickly, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and stormed out of the breakroom, ignoring the curious glances from his coworkers.
“Oi, Sugimoto!” one of the guys called out. “You heading out already? Boss said you could take a break—”
Sugimoto waved him off without stopping. “Something came up.”
He pushed through the back door and into the alley behind the delivery center. The second he was alone, he pulled out the wand and held it up in front of him, glaring at its sparkly pink form.
“Every damn time...” he muttered.
But there was no avoiding it. If he didn’t do something soon, people were going to get hurt.
Sugimoto took a deep breath, raising the wand high above his head.
“By the fangs of the wolf... I’LL TEAR THROUGH EVIL AND PROTECT THE WORLD!!”
The familiar surge of energy rushed through his body as pink light enveloped him. His regular clothes melted away, replaced by the tight-fitting suit—a mix of pink and white that clung to every muscle. Wolf ears sprouted from his head, twitching slightly, and behind him, his tail flicked through the air.
Sugimoto grimaced. “I’ll never get used to this.”
The wand transformed into his pink magic sword with a flash of light. He gripped it tightly in one hand and took off running toward downtown—his enhanced speed making it feel like he was flying across the pavement.
