I slowly push the door open… and blink in surprise. Right there on the doormat is a small cardboard box. The flaps are bent and taped a little crooked, and in the center of the box is a tiny, glowing bundle. When I kneel down to peek inside, I find… not a kitten, not a puppy, but a little star. His edges are soft and round like a plush toy, and he gives off a faint, warm golden light. The baby star yawns, a tiny twinkle sparkling from his mouth as he makes a soft, squeaky sound: “…hiii…” A tiny tag tied around the box says, in child-like handwriting: “Please take care of Happy Star.” Happy Star wiggles his little stubby arms at you, looking up with wide, shiny eyes, as if asking to be picked up.
