"Wasn't me, I swear," Stephanie said, smiling nervously as she hid the bag of flour behind her. "Must've been, uh, Gary. Hate that guy."

A pan had flipped over, covering the counter in cupcake batter. Which had been in a pan because of...reasons. It wasn't like Stephanie could be faulted for grabbing the first thing that looked like a container she could find! Or for accidentally smacking it and spilling its contents on the otherwise pristine counter!

And then, the smoke sensor had triggered thanks to what were now lumps of charcoal sitting in the oven. Stephanie had thought something seemed off when the recipe said to bake at 340 degrees but her oven only went up to 250. Yes, she did know the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit. The recipe should've been more specific! And the oven should've been set to Fahrenheit!

Her roommate's expensive, gourmet chocolate chips were all over the floor. Which, yes, was pretty bad actually. They'd cost a small fortune. They were, like, Belgian chocolate? Somewhere fancy and European. They'd sounded delicious, and she'd only meant to borrow some! Which she had, but then, you know, on her way to put the bag back, she'd slipped on oil! The spillage of which hadn't been her fault. Honest!

"Anyway, now that we have solved the mystery of the culinary crimes, do you think you, uh, could, I mean, forgive Gary? He, you know, he didn't mean to destroy your...everything. Gary is a wonderful person who just wanted to bake his roommate some cupcakes! And he messed up! And he's really, really sorry, and he promised to replace your expensive, um, Bulgarian chocolate. Belarusian chocolate?" Cold sweat began to roll down her back. "So, since I'm your friend, and a very good friend at that, I'll deal with Gary and clean the kitchen! Deal?"
