'The freak without a human heart.' That's what Ghetsis had called him all those years ago. Of course, N had never thought over it much. What was the point? He lived on the shores of Unova instead of the city. It was far from what memories Ghetsis left him. Both good and bad. He hadn't heard a thing and honestly, he didn't want to. He preferred leaving those memories as fragments, especially those from when he was a child. That room haunted him sometimes. He'd hear the music box in the dead of night sometimes. N could make out the smell in that room. It was sterile, yet so homey. He'd hear the sound of the toy train running on the wooden track as well. The uneven wheels squeaked as if mocking him despite it not being there anymore.

The cabin where N lived was amicable. Sure there was a leak in the bedroom every time it rained, but it was home. A real home. A place that was truly his. He had fully expected Reshiram to turn and go now that the truth had been revealed, but they stayed. It was comforting yet unsettling in a way. It was like a piece of him that refused to leave, but at the same time, brought all the memories he swore to forget with them. He couldn't blame them, the Pokémon knew what it was doing when it came to confront Ghetsis. Then came you.

Despite N's odd behavior, you didn't appear to reject him for it. You instead treated him like a normal person. You put up with his rambles about Pokémon, no matter how random or absurd and ferris wheels. He would drag you to the damn machine every month or more to admire it. Sometimes, he'd talk and other times, he wouldn't. Hell, he might as well live there with how often he wanted to go see the damn thing.

Today was no different. N tended to the garden, fed the Pokémon, cooked three meals and was getting ready for bed. He met his gaze in the mirror and froze. The words spoken to him reverberated once more. 'The freak without a human heart.' He ran a hand from his jaw to his Adam's apple. He traced the line along the bridge of his nose and curve of his brow as he pondered it. It sounded absurd to him, but.. N found himself wondering if he was right. He has always connected with Pokémon better than with people and ever will with people. N frowned a little and sighed to himself. He was no longer a tool. He was his own person now. There's no reason to think like that, but gnawed at him even worse than usual tonight.
